I remember going to a maple syrup farm and learning about the process the syrup has to go through. We also went to a pickle factory and learned about the process of making pickles. I was fascinated by it all.

I would love to immerse my students in food science by taking them on a field trip to a farm to learn where there food comes from and the steps it takes to go from the farm to the table.

The farm would be set up so students would be able to see demonstrations of where the food comes from and the steps in making certain food. Students would be engaged with the learning process because they are able to witness everything that is happening and it will be an interactive learning environment.

I will give the students an assignment, which they will have a week to complete, where they write their own recipe and create the story of the foods life from start to finish. They will have to explain the life or process of making each ingredient they use in their recipe. I think it would be a fun way for students to look at food and really think about the way food is created and the science behind it.
Cambourne’s Conditions of Learning

Something I have always found enjoyment in is being a volleyball coach. With Cambourne’s Conditions for learning I can effectively teach the ways of the game to my team. First, I will need to immerse my team in the game of volleyball. This happens by using a variety of drills and games making them interact with volleyball and gain court sense, but they could also interact with volleyball off the court through watching volleyball on tv or youtube. I can provide them with demonstrations in practices, highlighting key points to the game to become successful. By visually demonstrating what I want to be done, the players will have a better idea of what to do on the court. With the six positions on the court there will be set responsibilities for each position. I will also set responsibilities on my players as teammates to always give it their all and work towards success.
Since I want to also teach basketball, this is great way to help the students learn the concepts surrounding being able to shoot foul shots. Players will be immersed in the subject by showing videos of how to shot and taken to games. They will then be taken out on the court during practice and shown how to do it by the coach. Demonstration will include the proper stance and how to hold the ball along with where to aim the ball to get the best chance of the ball going in. The expectation of the student will be that they are capable of doing it, if they practice the concepts repeatedly. It is not something that will come right away, but they will become better at it over time. From there it will their responsibility to incorporate the concepts taught whenever they touch the ball. Players will be given stats to help them understand how just shooting foul shots and lays up can win a game for a team. Players will be expected to use the concepts learned everyday while in practice and while in the games. Correction will occur on a regular basis while in practice, with emphasis on the students focusing on what they are doing that is causing them to not perform it correctly. Videos of games and practices will be shown to help them see themselves on the court in action. The response of the students will be gained by their ability to see where correction is needed or where they can make adjustments in what they are doing. In the end, players will receive continuous feedback from the coaches on how they are doing and what the coaches are noticing. This way they can continue to work on the concepts during the practices.
Think about things you want to teach, whether that is something related to the traditional school curriculum, the arts, physical education, or teaching within the context of social work, psychology, business, and so many other fields.
If I were to apply these conditions of learning in an area I would begin with immersion. For example if I was going to teach a class of elementary age students about art and different types of art I could organize a field trip to an art fair on the day I would introduce the topic. When there we could watch an artist in progress or showing how he/she creates a certain piece (blown glass, water colors, ect..) After returning to the classroom I could introduce a theme that anyone can be great at art before embarking on any type of projects. Also making a point that art is and will always be a part of their lives and it a positive thing to embrace.

The project could be to make anything they consider to be a piece of art and the children could be given 2 weeks to complete it giving them the flexibily to choose how much time or effort they feel like they should put into the project. All along the students have been participating in art in a way that is worthwhile to them and they are engaged. The final element of the art project would to write a short critique of things they may have done differently (different materials, colors, orders ect.) The students will be able to display their art as a class and give each other compliments on work and helpful critiques. It will be enforced that critiques are made to be helpful and not hurtful and there is never a point in your life where you cannot to continue to expand and learn more and improve on anything.
I think immersing students in art would be beneficial for their education across the curriculum! And I agree. I definitely have to know the bigger picture and why something is important and applicable to my life or else I will never be able to learn it. Then after I learn, I need to apply. Because I personally, and I’m sure many of my student will be the same, learn from mistake. If I mess something up, I will learn and never mess up again.

In regards to teaching art, I can apply these conditions of learning by teaching the bigger picture. I will teach my students how art fits into the world and how it helps shape the environments they are in everyday. I will let them explore mediums and create based on trial and error with my guidance and after my demonstration.
Social workers are meant to be empathetic human beings. Sometimes, empathy needs to be taught, and I believe that can be done. For the first condition, immersion, students will be surrounded by people less fortunate, to see what it is like to be them. Second, demonstration, students would see other people expressing empathy. Thirdly, for engagement, students would begin to show empathy towards others, and partake in some of the necessary actions. Forth, as a teacher, I would share with them my expectations that they could do this, because they wouldn't be social work majors if they were not already somewhat empathetic. In the fifth condition, responsibility, students would be able to decide for themselves what they can do/who they should help first. Next, approximations, they jump into doing it, but may not be that great, and may make some mistakes. Employment: students gain more control, and get better at expressing empathy. Finally, response: I would respond to the student about what they’re doing, and whoever they’re helping may do so as well.
The other thing about social work is that you frequently have to teach specific things such as social skills or how to handle certain kinds of situations.
I can apply these learning conditions in my area of special education with everyday aspects of life such as giving change in public or other social interactions that are important in their functioning in every day life. For immersion you can explain what money is and make sure that all of the students understand the concept of money and what its purpose is. For demonstration I could show them each type of coin and bill using fake money and allow them to practice holding and identifying different bills and coins. As far as expectations, because they may get very frustrated, I think is important to constantly remind the students that they can do it and you know that they be able to understand what you are teaching them even if they don’t get it, I think it is also important not to label the tasks as “difficult” so that the students wont hear that and just shut down. For responsibility students are responsible for attempting to take in the content that is being taught and this can happen through employment where I could take the kids into a real life situation to a store or to a fast food restaurant where they will be expected to hand the cashier their money after they order their food or have picked out what they would like to buy and then they also need to receive the change. For approximations if they get flusters and make any mistakes in the interaction that can be discussed afterward and as far as response the cashier can ask them for their money and let them know what they’re change is and assist them by contributing to the interaction. A set back with students with disabilities sometimes have the opposite troubles of what Cambourne discusses. Students with disabilities often do fine practicing these activities in a classroom but struggle transferring their learned skills into a real life situation, so that is something that I would need to attend to.
Kids are immersed in money and financial transactions outside of school, so that means that you have to do less in the immersion area (unlike immersing kids in something like quadratic equations).
