Welcome!

Welcome to Educational Psychology, Psy 201-03. This is the online version of the course. This page explains the nuts and bolts of how we are going to move through this course together. You can email me or call/text me with any questions that are not explained here. My phone is 614-282-8012 and my email is cosborn2@capital.edu.

Psy 201 Educational Psychology has been a wonderful challenge for me as a teacher. The material itself requires that I think about my own teaching and I believe it also requires me to model best teaching practices. This course reflects my contemplation on what best practices are, since I first began teaching it in 2006. If you do not understand why something is as it is in this class, I certainly welcome your questions.

Getting Started

To get your feet wet, go to:
Hole in the Wall Experiment

On this page is some information in text for you and a video. Read the page and then watch the video.

Under "Things to Think About" are some questions for you to think about. Also, under "Graduate School Preparation" are some materials and activities if you want to dig deeper into this topic.

Open a word processing file (you can use a program on your actual computer or you can get a free account at docs.google.com and use their free word processing online program). Write your thoughts about the topics under "Things to Think About." You can then copy what you wrote and paste it into the discussion forum on ilearn.

The idea behind "Graduate School Preparation" is to give you opportunities to dig deeper into some of our topics, in the way that you would probably do once you are in graduate school. The activities under this heading are completely optional.

Spend no more than 2 hours on the Hole in the Wall Experiment activities.

When you have completed the Hole in the Wall Experiment page, go to Motivation and work on the items on that page, spending no more than 2 hours.

Once you have completed these two pages, then you can complete the remainder of the pages in any order you would like.

Completing Pages

I expect regular contributions to the discussion forum from you, reflecting your steady, ongoing engagement with the material across the school term. An important part of my teaching and ability to individualize the course for your personal learning needs is the feedback I provide. When you regularly post to the discussion forums, I can provide this to you. People who wait until the last minute to post, making it difficult or impossible for me to respond, receive a much lower quality educational experience. The best way to get your tuition dollar's full worth in this class is to work steadily across the term on this material.
