In a history or foreign language class, I would use Skype to connect with students in Europe or Asia. Each student could be assigned to another student that they could have weekly conversations about each other’s cultures and lifestyles. To assess what they have learned, students could give presentations emulating and detailing their foreign partner’s life.
As an early childhood teacher, I would like to do something that will not only be fun and keep the attention span of young children but informational and cover the curriculum at the same time. It will cause the students to work and think without it truly feeling like work. A lesson I would do using technology would be using the smart board for an interactive math lesson. I remember in grade school it was always fun to be asked to go to the overhead and count the amount of chips on the page of circle the correct answer. I would do the same concept in my class getting students to interact in class, but now with smart boards the students can go right up to the board and circle the answer projected with only using their finger. I would then assess the students on the amount of questions correct.
A lesson that I could introduce into by classroom while utilizing technology in the classroom would be a lesson on classic works of art. While introducing this topic I could use a Smart Board to show videos on a particular artist then take a virtual tour of museums that you could see this art displayed in. ideally ones that would show a 360 degree view of the inside of the museum so we could envision as a class what it might be like to actually be there. After we explored this as a class we could use a computer lab or library to have students pick an artist and do a prezi or power point presentation showing a little bit about the life of the artist and show some works that they liked the best. To assess my students I would have them present what they found when they researched a particular artist. Before I could set up guidelines that could include a list of artists to pick from along with a few points they would need to hit on. To conclude this lesson we could share what we found with all the students and make a museum out of the class. Each student could make a representation of their favorite piece of art and set this up around the class and pretend we are in our very own museum- of course food and drink in our museum or gallery could be a fun way to make it a celebration of all we have learned!
Design a lesson that uses technology as a means to teach an important concept.
For an elementary art class I could use technology in many different ways and I need technology to present ideas and topics to my class. By creating a PowerPoint and using a projector I can effectively teach my students about a variety of topics and artists. I can also incorporate technology into a lesson by having my older students research ideas for art project or print images off to create collages or transfers. Along with that, I think it is important to teach my students the difference between researching art for inspiration and how to avoid plagiarism. One really cool thing I’d like to use technology for would be a simulation project. If I’m teaching my students about cave art, there are websites that walk you through a cave. So I can pull up that website and project it onto the wall and shut off the lights so my students get to experience cave art in a way. I’ve also seen really cool cameras that attach to a smart board so I could work on an example piece of art on a desk, and it would project on the wall so my student could see it clearly.

In order to assess, I would ask my students questions to see if the information they reviewed on the PowerPoint or during class stuck with them. With art, I would never resort to tests or worksheets to assess, but strictly questions and just looking for proof of their learning in their art. One of the teachers I observed would always “quiz” her students as they were lined up at the door waiting for their core teacher to pick them up, which I really liked. I could also make the “quiz” into a game, which would be fun for my students.
I think having up to date technology is extremely important in the classroom. When I was in high school, I was in an AP Calculus class, and we had a “SmartBoard” in which the teacher had a tablet that he would hold, and it was wirelessly connected to a projector (which was in the ceiling) so the whole class could see what he was doing. It also had a lot of cool features on it, too. This was so much better than one of those old school projectors that the teacher has to sit next to and write on. This allowed him to walk around the class and easily give individual attention to students in need. I think if I was an education major, and going to teach math, this is definitely a tool I would utilize, if possible. I know that I really benefited from it, as I did much better in that class than I did in past math classes.

I’m also a big fan of those “clicker” questions. They’re a bit similar to tests, but not really. I would but a math problem on the smartboard, and each student would have a device that allowed them to input their answer. I would make a competition out of it, to make it a bit more fun, such as rewards to students who finish first and get the correct answer. I think these types of technology get students more engaged in the learning experience, and I definitely think it would be worth the money school districts would have to spend for these advances.
Since I will be a high school science teacher, I would like to do something that can will not only be fun but information at the same time.
A really good lesson that uses technology that I actually experienced was about Simple Machines. This is a fifth grade lesson that talks about all different types of simple machines and their uses. Technology that is used for this lesson is computers. Each student can go onto this website called Edheads.org. For this specific lesson students can go onto activities and then into simple machines where there is a program designed for students to explore different simple machines and learn about their uses. For an assessment, there is a built in assessment in the online activity where throughout the learning experience students are asked questions and the game ensures that even if the student gets the answer wrong, they answer the question until they choose the correct one and the correct answer also includes an explanation. Once the student has been through all of the machines and answers there is an option to print out a sheet to turn into your teacher to indicate that you have successfully completed the activity. There are also other activities that can provide students with a fun learning experience and they are very detailed and serve as a great tool for teachers to utilize.
What a great resource.
• As a future teacher I will need to use technology in many of my lessons. One lesson that I could design that would utilize technology would be teaching about a foreign country. In order to introduce the foreign country I could provide a slide show of photos and videos that give my students a chance to visually experience a country that they may never see in real life. Another activity I could do would be to have my students do their own research on the web and from books about the country. Students could choose different aspects about one country or could choose different countries in the same region. To assess them I could have them present to the class or me. I could assess their use of technology and ability to use it. To guide them I could give them certain concepts and topics regarding the foreign country to talk about or research. These could be different cultural ideas such as food, transportation, or climate. Another activity would be to share literature from or about this foreign country. Lastly, I could share different music from this country with my class. Using all we have learned from technology and the overall lesson we could create a display as a class that represents the country.
One thing that would be really fun would be to use Google maps and Streetview so students could design a walking tour of a city in a different city.
