Oh Ed Psychology you had so much

For me to learn and grow a bunch

To become a better teacher is who I want to be

From Assessments down to Vygotsky’s theory

The Wiki page grew with every entry

But knowledge is what we found

Creating our own style is where were bound

With which theory would i want to teach in

From Kohlberg to Maslow to Erikson

To Bloom’s Taxonomy and work with behavior

Using things from all theorist is in my favor

You have probably wondered why a social work major, with no interest in teaching, would sign up for this course. To be honest, I needed an extra class, and a friend of mine told me that it was easy. I did not think about the fact that that friend is an education major, and to her, these topics are easy. This course taught me a lot. Not just about the education field, but about myself, as well. I learned that I have absolutely no self-discipline, and online courses are much harder than I ever would have expected them to be. On the other hand, this class taught me so much about education, and I now realize that it is a much more complicated field than I originally thought. All of this being said, I believe I have earned a great wealth of knowledge in taking this course.

Everything I learned in the course about the different theorists is, and will be, extremely valuable to me. I have a minor in psychology, so I have taken a lot of psychology courses, and learned about most of these theorists. I had no idea that these theorists had such great influence on the education field as well. Learning about them in the education context caused me to think about them in a different way. This semester, in my Developmental Psychology class, I learned about Erik Erikson, and his psychosocial stages of development. Learning about him in the context of teaching helped me to understand his stages better in the psychology context.

I would have to say that the Listening unit included the most valuable information for me, personally. Social work is an extremely relationship-intensive career, so having good listening skills is very important. I plan to provide therapy at some point in my career, so these listening skills I have learned will definitely come in handy.

One of the first units we did, Motivation, was an interesting topic. I enjoyed dissecting where my motivation comes from, and it actually surprised me. This being said, this class also showed me that I do not have much self-motivation, and that is something that I am definitely going to work on next semester.

A lot of the information I have learned may not be useful to me now, or in my future career, but I found it extremely interesting to learn about. Standardized tests, for example; I’ve taken several, but I never thought about the issues surrounding them. I also never realized that being in a technologically advanced classroom would impact my learning, but looking back on my high school career, it definitely did. I particularly loved the “Teaching All Students” unit, and the videos about Rene Moreno. That video, and writing about him, opened by eyes to a syndrome I previously knew nothing about. That video taught me to accept everyone, and that everyone is valuable.

Overall, this course is not what I expected. I was not expecting to come out of an online course filled with a wealth of new knowledge, especially knowledge that will be helpful to me. I am very happy that I decided to take this course, as it benefited me in ways that I could not have previously imagined.
http://prezi.com/kub5an-84jyj/educational-psychology-final/?kw=view-kub5an-84jyj&rc=ref-25212173

I made a Prezi that talked about the different influential people that we learned about in psychology. I took all of the things that I thought were the most important key concepts that each person contributed. I feel that these are important in understanding psychology because they all had important discoveries that serve as a foundation. I think that going forward it will be important to keep these things in mind because they help provide a foundation for your application of educational psychology in your classroom. This Prezi can be used in the future as a resource when I need a refresher on the different influences in psychology and if what I am doing in my classroom is not effective I can use this to find a different approach that may serve my class better.
I enjoyed your Prezi!!
