I found a website www.k12teacherstaffdevelopment.com that is filled with workshops courses for teachers to take to work continue learning about their career. I think continuing your education is one of the most important things you can do as an educator. There is always going to be a new technology or way to improve your teaching, so it is important to keep yourself up to date.

The 5 Resources I would use as a Teacher:

-Self-Study Courses: there are countless courses that you can take, I would focus on course like Bullying: The Golden Rule Solution, Cognitive Skills: Understanding Learning Challenges, and Partnering with Parents. These are the courses I would be interested in because I want to teach Special Education.

-Instructed Courses: Working with an instructor would be very beneficial for improving my teaching skills. Also I could learn a lot from my fellow teachers taking the course. I would really like the course called Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies.

-Graduate Level Courses: Taking graduate school courses at my own pace is a great option for teachers to continue their education at their convenience. The graduate level course that interests me is called Understanding Special Learning Populations.

-Teacher Blogs: These are a great way to get ideas for projects and activities in the classroom. The internet is a great way to connect teachers around the world and help them learn from each other. It's a great way to learn from teachers with more experience and to bounce ideas off each other.

-Magazines: I think magazines are a great resource for teachers. I love reading National Geographic and I think it would be a great way to share current events with my students.
-National Association of Social Workers

I wont be getting my license until August, so I can’t apply for a job starting in the Fall. I have a lot of other option and interests though, so I am trying to be prayerful about them. I have listed a few different resources that could lend a hand to what I may choose to do:

https://arted.osu.edu/ma-art-education - go to graduate school for art education or even art at Ohio State. Most schools will not hire an art teacher if they have their masters, so this is the least likely option. I do think it would be fun and very beneficial and would give me a few more years to invest in education before entering the real world.

http://transformcreative.org/ http://www.cru.org/ - I have been a part of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) for the past four years and it has impacted me tremendously. I have spent two summers with Cru and have been in a leadership position with Cru at Capital for 2+ years. Cru offers many options for post-graduates. I am especially drawn to the idea of Stint (a year long missions abroad) or to the Transform Ministry. Transform is in NYC and is a group of artists working in the city to share the Gospel through art.

http://www.pratt.edu/academics/degrees/graduate/ - I am putting Pratt in here because Pratt has been an interest of mine since high school. I would love to go to Pratt for one of their Graduate programs whether it be Art Therapy, Art Education, or Art Management.

http://www.batasymposium.org/ - BATA stands for Buckeye Art Therapy Association. Since I am double majoring in art therapy and art education, the idea of pursuing art therapy crosses my mind. Ultimately, I don’t think it is a perfect fit for me, but I do find it appealing and BATA would help me find resources and the art therapy community.

http://www.oaea.org/ OAEA is the Ohio Arts Education Association. I chose to put this on the list because if I do pursue art education, this would be extremely beneficial as the site if full of lesson plans, job opportunities, discussion panels, career development and more.
Professional Development

Special Ed News has everything you could need. It includes lesson plans, strategies, recently published information as well as a list of professional development organizations. This is an excellent resource for teachers.

Center for the Study of Autism

CSA is an organization that has funded millions of dollars toward research and special education outside of government control. This is a great tool for professional development because educators as well as parents can contribute personal classroom experiences. Even better, CSA provides parents and educators with the opportunity to decide what is appropriate for their research agenda.

International Association of Special Education

This program has allowed professional educators and researchers to exchange concepts and needed scientific analysis, which can be a huge advantage either way.

National Center for Special Education Research

This is organization is great because it has created an easier path for special education teachers to apply for grants and funding which can really further professional development.

Assistive Technology of Ohio

The director of ATO actually came and spoke with one of my classes. This organization is perfect for professional development because if you have a student that you think could really benefit from an assistive device, you contact ATO and they will help find a device that could benefit that student. Then, they ship that device to you for free and allow you to rent that device, for free, and once it is time to send the device back, they pay for the shipping on that as well. This is set up to allow teachers to help find assistive technology devices and test them out prior to cutting into funding and purchasing a device that you aren’t sure about how well it will work. This organization can really help professional development in assistive technology.
I didn't know about ATO--I just bookmarked that.
